Founded in 1993, the trust’s property in Bay Road has been home to many tāngata whai ora over the years. There are two shared homes surrounded by gardens that allow residents to live as independently as possible, with support from a qualified team of ten dedicated kaimahi.

WISH is a small interactive community where people flourish within an environment of trust respect and aroha. We are funded on a day-bed basis by Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) and MSD. WISH has achieved Level 4 (high needs) accredited status, providing a 24-hour ‘awake’ service.

We subscribe to the Strengths Model recovery approach, aspiring to be an ever improving best practice NGO within the New Zealand Mental Health Sector, as evidenced by our recent shortlisting with Best Places to Work and excellent audit results.

Our Kitchen Garden

Fresh Herbs and salad greens are always within reach for whatever is on the menu..

Raised beds ensure easy access for all tangata whai ora to get involved in gardening and cooking.

We also hope to be selling salad greens and herbs in the near future as an employment opportunity for our whai ora.

Microgreens Project

Our Microgreens may be small, but our plans are not. Our Tangata Whai ora are growing a range of delicious microgreens all year round to sell.

As the plants and customer base grow, so does the employment opportunities for those who have learnt the new skills and are growing the microgreens.

House plant growing and sales

Our green fingered whai ora are also busy taking cuttings and propagating plants as another small business and employment opportunity.

Growing our own food

We have a range of fruit trees, and other things growing. Our Whai ora are learning new skills in the garden and then enjoying making great food to share.
